Why Lambda Chi?

LXA National Facts

  • Lambda Chi Alpha has initiated the third most men ever, standing at 250,000 in the Spring of 2006
  • First fraternity to eliminate pledging and remains a leader in the fight against hazing
  • Founded by Warren A. Cole, while he was a student at Boston University, on November 2, 1909
  • Over 300 Chapters (called Zetas) in the United States and Canada

LXA at Maryland

Although Lambda Chi Alpha started at the University of Maryland in 1921, the chapter we know today originated much more recently. In 1995, a group of students from Easton Hall were hoping to join a fraternity, but could not seem to find one where they felt was for them. They in turn researched and worked hard to bring Lambda Chi Alpha Epsilon Pi Zeta back to the University of Maryland as a colony. By 1998, we received our charter officially, and were granted housing in 7 Fraternity Row in the summer of 2001. There have been 972 initiated brothers on this campus, and about 60 brothers were active last year when we won the Most Improved Chapter on Campus award. Lambda Chi has given many men the gift of life long friendships that cannot be achieved on an every day basis, and this holds true for the brothers who are currently still enrolled, it has made college an experience that one could not imagine being without. The leadership opportunities that you available within Lambda Chi Alpha are priceless in preparing you for life after college. It is truly impossible to put the experience
of Lambda Chi Alpha into words. The best way to describe it is through our motto:

“From the inside you can’t explain it, and from the outside you can’t understand it.”
